Hi all, sorry I haven't been around for awhile. I see a couple of you on facebook. Anyone else here have facebook?
I am so frustrated. Yesterday very upset and crying. Luke is coming home soon. He would already be home if we could find a school for him. We all agree that the jr high here would be too much for him with the crowds of kids, the noise, the different teachers and so on, so that's not an option. I was going to ask for a one on one or with just a few other kids with moderations but decided not to. He's already being picked on at Bush, imagine in a regular high school.
The day treatment we thought he was going to go to did not accept him. When Leigh (case manager) and I visited them, they acted as though he was accepted by the way they talked telling us they had an opening at that time and answered all my questions just the way I wanted to hear and gave me information, like the rules, etc that said, Welcome to Central Community School on the front of it, and a scedule of the school day and a school year calender. and even talked about Luke coming to visit.
Well after weeks they finally talked to Leigh and said he was not accepted. first they said because his IQ was too low. They read somewhere it was 62 and it's been 72 since he was like 4 or 5. He was retested in the hospital in 07 with the same, 72. I was going to have Leigh call them and tell them that. Then I asked if it was the only reason, and she said, no they are also worried about his pdd dx. Duh, we told him he had pdd and behavior problems before they acted as if he were accepted.
For some reason they don't want him there, I wouldn't want him there anyway if they don't have experience with pdd even though I asked them and they said they've had a few students with that dx.
Anyway, no Leigh is having a hard time finding a school for Luke, she was going to try 2 other treatment centers 40 mins away. I am sure they don't have experience with it either. So I left a message for her yesterday that I saw online the New Country Charter School in Henderson which isn't far at all and read about it and I think Luke would like it. His cousin who has aspbergers goes there and loves it.
They do credits instead of grades, every child has their own computer and it said some will take longer on tests then others, they don't do work according to grade level, but as they can do, sometimes less, sometimes more. they have a lot of science and art which he would really like. They base their learning around a subject the child really likes. they have one on one attention and do have special ed teachers or as they call them, advisors. Have any of you with a child with pdd ever try a charter school? ignore the thing below I was going to post something but I'll wait til I hear back from the other person I was suppose to contact about it.
