I will probably know the answer to this tomorrow morning either way but I thought I would ask anyway.

The pdoc asked me to try Alex without his Invega to see if he really needs it. I probably didn't time this right as he just came back from a week at his dad's and has a very infected cut on his ankle (long story) but our time for med changes is tight this summer. He hasn't had any for 2 mornings now. He was fine all day yesterday and today until we announced it was bedtime. Now he is crying and uncooperative and he doesn't know why. He says he just doesn't "feel" like doing what we ask him to do.

This is not like him. He has been quite agreeable all summer.

Do you think it is a normal response to stress or do you think it is the Invega starting to wear off? The pdoc says it is a med you should know right away if you need it or not. He says it is our of your system in 24 hours.

Kristin, I do not know because Alexa's issues were irritability and anger and crying only came sometimes after a rage but she hardly ever cried. It could be the Invega drop off along with his Effexor causing him some anxiety? I still dont know but just a thought. Alexa without her AP is alternatively completely obnoxious and eerily nasty, aggressive, and mean, out of control. So, it's hard for me to say since her symptoms are so different.

It seems as if no one I've heard from has ever seen Topamax work alone, so I would be surprised. But this is really not my area of expertise. I hope you make it through this trial without too much trouble. You don't need it. I'm glad you posted and hope for an update soon.

He is very anxious all the time regardless. He is having a hard time practicing his trumpet even during the summer with no school. I haven't been able to get him to do any keyboarding practice all summer due to anxiety but I consented to let him join facebook and he is typing all day with friends if I let him so he is getting his practice in other ways.

He has always been this anxious though. All his life. No meds I give him ever completely take away the anxiety. He did a checklist at his tdoc's himself for the first time to rate his anxiety and I was shocked how much he worries and how many things he worries about all day every day. This was a month ago. His tdoc feels his anxiety continues to bother him as he hasn't developed positive self talk and other coping skills. We are hoping the trumpet lessons that come naturally to him (although he doesn't think so) will help with his overall confidence.

Glad to see you, Kristin. Sorry I have no info or advice. Hope you find out soon and that somehow someway something will help his anxiety.

He decided on his own this morning to take his Invega. He said he felt angry for no reason at all. He says he feels much calmer and in control now.

The anxiety is still quite debilitating though and no matter what we have tried, nothing has really helped.

The big surprise for me was finding out that one of his biggest sources of anxiety is separation anxiety from me. We worries I will die if I leave the house without him.

I find it very encouraging that he decided on his own that he needed the Invega, that he was/is able to monitor his own moods that way. I hope his treatment team will find a way to help him with his anxiety. I would worry that he will want to self-medicate with marijuana or other drugs when he gets older unless the treatment team can find some med or stress management technique that will work effectively.

That is supposed to be what the tdoc is for. She has been working through a workbook with him for children with Anxiety. It is called "I bet I won't fret". It is for younger children, not teens but it is at his level emotionally. He has to be willing to do some things to help himself and he is at the point where he is starting to be willing to try but it is hard work. He wants a pill to make it all go away and wants me to solve everything for him. He doesn't realize or understand why he can't just tell me all his problems and get me to fix them all. Life just doesn't work that way.
