I know our snow here is laughable compared to folks in the Midwest and up in Canada. But the problem here is that, because we don't get this kind of snow more than once every ten years or so, people don't know how to drive in it for one thing; but more problematic, our local governments have very little snow equipment, so there is little to no snow removal on the streets and roads.

People don't have snow-shovels or the fancier kind of snow removal equipment. Getting out of driveways and off side roads were the biggest problems and dangerous if there were hills to deal with -- going down worse than going up when you just might not make it. People were in ditches everywhere. Hardly anyone has chains or snow tires.

When the snow in the driveway is higher than the bumper of the car, it is a serious problem. Four-wheelers and trucks were pretty much all that could get around during the worst of it. Half of Seattle's bus fleet was unable to run, and all buses everywhere were on limited schedules and very undependable, even with the small amount of snowfall that would make folks in the Midwest snicker.
