Susan, if Nate is stable, do you think this change might destabilize him? It sounds like this doc strongly wants to cut down on the meds and is firmly against Lithium use if possible. That seems fine to me and I like that it agrees with your thoughts as well! That is awesome that he seems to actually care about the person behind the illness.

My dd took Focalin but I had to hide it or else she would pop them every hour or so. Seriously. It is sooooo short-acting, it's not even funny. On the upside, it doesn't have all the extra yucky stuff that is in Ritalin, which works in a similar fashion. I believe my dd was on 20 mg XR and then 10 mg a.m. and p.m.

Concerta works much longer but you may want to check with your insurance co. about the cost. It is more expensive than Focalin. In fact, Abilify is also one of the pricier meds on the Tiers, it seems. Risperdal was cheap if I recall correctly. So, you may have an increase in that expense. Just a heads up.

Overall it sounds wonderful! I'm happy you like this doctor!
