Don't increase the melatonin. Increasing melatonin above 3 mg can actually cause the opposite effect. Recent clinical studies suggest that if the melatonin you are buying actually has the amount it says on the label, doses as low as 0.5 mg can be as effective as 3mg. Doses above 3 mg can keep you awake.

That being said, it doesn't work for everyone.

Unless Jordan is an addictive personality, I wouldn't worry too much about taking Ativan for up to a month. It is in the same family as Valium. My dh took one of them for 6 months for restless leg syndrome every night. He only stopped when the effect started to wear off after 6 months. He had trouble sleeping for a few nights as he slowly weaned off but then he was fine.

It isn't like 1 or 2 doses are going to make him addicted. The more common problem is developing a tolerance so that the dose you take today to help with sleep doesn't work after a few weeks.

I hope that helps.

Trazodone made both me and Alex very sleepy. Also my gm. It is safer than the sleeping pills. Flexeril is another that is given for sleep problems. It is a muscle relaxant but is prescribed for other things (fibro, migraines, etc.).
