O.K. Hard to remember which meds she was on! Perhaps it isn't the Zoloft but I just don't think it is helping either. Just my two cents. If she is still raging uncontrollably, I would think some other med may be causing it. Same with the stimulants. Wellbutrin is usually the antidepressant they try for people with bp. If her problem is behavioral, obviously the meds will not adjust that behavior. Perhaps they can put her into intense counseling with behavior plans and DBT therapy? I would at least suggest that. I'm trying to think of what else you can do! The thyroid being down is very common with bipolar disorder so I would not be surprised. Hopefully putting her on Synthroid would be very helpful. This thyroid problem can create much irritability.

If that does not help, I'm going out on a limb and saying that assuming this is not behavioral and is the bipolar illness, that a drug that might help her would be Zyprexa. I normally tell everyone to stay away from Zyprexa because it does cause weight gain, usually. But, if she is this unstable and you are that desperate, you could try it. It is generally used to treat schizophrenia first and foremost but many bpers have been on it. It is one of the most effective drugs for fighting both mania and depression in longer term studies with many participants. But, like I said, the side effect of weight gain is very real.

I'm so glad she has been approved for a longer stay. That's great!
