now every kid is different but---I remember torturous car rides to camp and tearful torturous scenes...all of which dried up once the kewl stuff started happening--which was about 5 minutes after my car left the parking lot!!! (anxious phone calls to the camp confirmed it.)
I have also saved some of the funniest black humored camp mellow drama letters-- "I cry myself to sleep everynight" "my heart is broken and shall be never mended" with graphic designs of broken hearts and pictures of 8 year old boys drowning in their own seas of tears... meanwhile I got glowing reviews from the camp of an active social kid... My daughter sent these im being tortured and shall drown myself letters to everyone--full letter writing campaign---only her paternal grandma bit-- who notified me AFTER she arrived at the camp that she was picking her up---turned into a great grandma/kid bonding week-so it was fine by me...lol
Camp worked best when it was especially geared to my kids interest---week long fishing camp for son- concordia german language camp-daughter for example. Nothing wrong with needing the break, and your kid needs the seperation too--if he cant handle you'll hear about it...
