I think you answered part of your anguish when you told the doctor, "He's 78 and he wants to feel 50." It sounds as if he were very independent. Anita's right, we can't control another's free agency. Who knows what he was doing or where he was going. Maybe he decided some soup sounded good or something.

Maybe the young man is feeling guilty that he kept telling your uncle he would be OK when he obviously wasn't. But he did exactly right, remaining calm, offering comfort. When I had my accident & was trapped in the car & the ambulance was running all over the county trying to find me, two men stood by the van & talked quietly. That was a real comfort to me. Imagine if I'd been trapped & they were panicking trying to get me out.

You have every right to be grief-stricken & guilt is part of the grieving process. I'm so sorry.
