Luke has a new in home skills counselor and I mean brand new. She isn't even listed on their website. I asked her last time she was here which was last Wed if she had any experience with autism and she said no. I could just tell by the way she was talking with him and other things. Actually the first day she came which was only two Mondays ago, she said, "so he has ahdh?". Not a thing about autism.
Well I asked about her knowledge with autism because the day before that that she was here Luke got very frustrated because she was trying to read about adhd and what it was with him. He of course didnt' understand and said so twice. Then he ripped up her papers, threw her pen, and sat on the other side by me and called me a name and told me I have a big mouth ,kicking things. then he was laughing as the counselor and I and dh tried to talk to him about his behavior.
Of course this is after she played a game with him and danced with him and copy his moves like he asked and he really like her than. I told her next time talk first, game after even though I knew he wouldn't like that either. Then it was the next time she came that I asked about her experience and she said she told her supervisor who is a therapist about his behavior and she told her to just let him have his way and play a game. Then I asked "and try to talk to him during" and she said yes, he said he'd walk to the church with her and me to use their basketball court because it's lower, and he wouldn't. Also threw a crying fit about wearing his sweatshirt. This is when it was 30 degrees outside.
Last I knew he was getting a male skills counselor as we asked and then all of a sudden I get this phone call. The one he was going to have supposedly it didn't work out with Luke in school. and I was never told this.
Oh when I asked her about her experieince with autism , she said "you do". No kidding. She asked us what we do when he asks like he did and we said we don't know what to do anymore and that's why we needed her. She doesn't have a clue. So what can she do that we can't with no experience.
I do understand she is new and you have to start somewhere, but no training whatsever with autism?
Thanks for reading
