Tummy Tuck |

Has anyone ever had a tummy tuck? I am getting one and am looking for some idea on how long it takes to recoop.

Yikes! Do be careful, Star - I don't know of anyone who has had one. Why do you think you need to do that? I'm a big believer in our loving ourselves
just as we are, and only doing things for our bodies that make us healthier, like watching what we eat, exercising, etc. . I'm sure a surgeon would say
that I could use a few procedures, but I figure that God made me as me, and if He loves me, that's good enough for me! Please don't do anything
impulsively, okay? At the end of the day, it's what WE tell ourselves about our bodies, etc. that determine how we feel and what we project to the rest of
the world. Please give this some more thought, and don't forget that e-mail you promised me, k?
Sending S!

Yes, a friend of mine had a gastric bypass in February 2007, it took her over a year to recover & I'd say she still hasn't recovered. Because of
it, she now has seizure disorder & cannot drive or hold down a job. I only know of two who have had success with it. I also know people who have put all
their weight back on. I know of a couple of fatalaties because of it. Unless it's a matter of you die because your weight is killing you or you die because
of the side effects of the surgery, I guess it's your decision as to which death you want. I also know people who have lost their weight because of sheer
hard work & watching everything they put in their mouths. I personally would not do it. It's not a quick fix. I have seen first hand the hair loss, the
trips to the hospital for infusions because of dehydration. The baggy skin that requires lycra to hold it in.
Nick is on SSI, topamax, abilify, buspar, (Asperger's, bipolar, anxiety); prilosec (reflux); zyrtec-D, nasal spray (allergies); metformin (recently dx'd insulin resistance) |

This isn't gastric bypass it is cutting out the sagging skin and tightening up the muscles loosened by having kids. I have thought about it for years and
just went to a doc to find out what was involved. I lost over 50 lbs and now my tummy is sagging and it is a real self esteem issue for me. Wondering I will
try to get that email out to you today or tomorrow.

Star - I understood what you meant. Congrats for losing the 50 pounds! My question to a dr would be whether or not there were exercises that would help those
muscles tighten and how much that would take care of the problem. Also, I know you have to be REALLY sure that the dr is someone who is very knowledgeable,
because there are lots of stories about botched procedures and the psychological effects from that. I wouldn't want anyone from a small town who is not a
real expert having done thousands and thousands of these to be performing it, know what i mean? There are risks involved with everything, so again, please
consider all your options first.

Star, I hope this is not offensive, but how can you afford such an expensive plastic surgery? I know I couldnt afford it myself and I make quite a good
salary!!!!
I also wonder if there are exercises you can do or if it's extra skin you are talking about?

So, that's what I get for showing my ignorance. I still wouldn't do it.

It isn't very expensive for what I am looking at...at least in my area it isn't.
Rayni, if I had not researched it I would have thought it was the same thing you did. |

Have you seen a board certified plastic surgeon who has done a lot of these procedures?
http://www.yourplasticsurgeryguide.com/tummy-tuck/cost.htm Still too pricey for my wallet! I definitely would not do it as I think it is too risky for elective surgery.

I would talk to the doctor who is doing the procedure and he / she should give you all the recovery information, along with an explanation of how the procedure
is done, what you can and cannot do afterward, possible complications, etc. You should find this all out BEFORE you actually schedule the procedure. Will you
get time off work?

I decided not to do it lol.

Star - I'm relieved. I was worried about you. Any surgery carries a risk, and I didn't want you to go through any kind of trouble or complication.
You've done such an awesome job with your weight loss - that alone should boost your selfconfidence and show you that you can do anything you set your mind
to!

What I have lost did make me happy it just wasn't enough for the guy I was dating. I realized that he thought was not as important as what I thought so I
dumped him and now I am happy with my weight. I would still like to get rid of this little tummy I have from having kids but I am going to just do sit ups to
get rid of it.

Exactly! You don't need someone trying to undermine your self esteem like that...that is not someone who cares about you!
Good for you!!!

If anyone is interested...the best exercise I have found is walking and doing crunches on a benderball. I love my benderball!

It that one of those big balls, and you lean on it to do the crunches?

Ya, what's a benderball? I've been walking since May 1. I can get in a pair of pants I haven't been able to get in for a couple of years

Star - I am so proud of you as well! WE are what matters, and we must never, never let a guy get into our heads and make us doubt ourselves in ANY way. Good
for you for recognizing that and taking a positive stand for yourself. The walking and crunches are things that are proactive and good for your overall health
too. WOOHOO and a big WTG!!!

Wow, everyone is doing so well in their weight loss journeys! Boy, we are an amazing group, eh? LOL.
Rayni, here is a link to a bender ball (the original one, I think) but there are other similar balls, too. My mom said they use them at the "Y" where she works out. http://www.benderball.com/
