Try not to worry about high school (I know, easy to say - hard to do). It's overwhelming to contemplate the future when today is such a struggle, you know?
You've enough on your plate.

So true....today has enough worries. Perhaps Alex needs some homework accommodations? It seems to me that it's a continual blow to their self esteem to
"fail" so often. I really wish I had known this years ago. It does sound like the teacher is offering some good ideas to help him succeed. Maybe
something that says he is not required to do the work on his dad's weekends since his dad refuses to help him?

Mentally, he is where he needs to be to do the advanced course work. Physically, he isn't capable of the output. His anxiety around written work is also
still getting in the way although it is getting better.
If I put him in general or basic level courses, he will get a diploma but he won't be able to go to college. I think it is still too early to write off college for him. All on his own, he was making connections between characters in his book to yin/yang and he was able to explain it too. Even his teacher was blown away by that one. What I am thinking of doing is asking the school if they can ensure he has at least 1 easy course each semester. For example, gym 1 semester, shop another semester. Things without homework. Then he will only have 3 courses with homework each semester. Maybe it will be easier for both of us to keep track of everything in highschool if it is organized that way. Right now, he has 10 subjects. Thankfully he doesn't have French. They are supposed to not penalize him for not doing homework on his dad's weekends but not all the teachers seem to know and understand this. I am going to talk to his science teacher about makeup work for his 52% test since he couldn't study as he was at his dad's.
